For many people of her status on salary of N7, 800 only, this could have been an opportunity to bid bye to poverty, albeit dishonestly; and not a few people of comfortable status in our midst could have readily appropriated the money, celebrating their luck. But not Josephine; that for her would be filthy lucre. She did not negotiate with her conscience whether or not to return the money because according to her, she had been brought up not to take what does not belong to her.

Caverton signs charter service deal with NNPC

Caverton Helicopters Limited – a subsidiary of Caverton Offshore Support Group PLC (COSG) has announced that it has signed a Helicopter Charter Service Agreement with Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).

This service provision will cover offshore platforms operated by Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) as well as all flight requests from other NNPC subsidiaries on a call-off basis.

Security drill causes panic at Sokoto Airport

The Manager Sokoto International Airport, Alhaji Abubakar Lawal, on Tuesday said there was no bomb scare at the airport, contrary to rumours making the rounds in the state. Abubakar made the clarification following the discovery of a bag at the terminal building of the airport, which created panic in the Sokoto metropolis, as people scampered for safety.

Arik denies aviation fuel theft on its aircraft

The management of Arik Air has debunked reports that three of its staff were caught siphoning aviation fuel (Jet-A1) in the early hours of Sunday from one of its aircraft at the terminal of the Lagos International Airport.

The airline today released a statement through its Facebook page denying the reports.  According to the statement, the airline says the three people caught were siphoning fuel from a truck and not from an Arik Air aircraft.

The statement further reads that the airline does not own the aircraft (registration number 5N MID) from which the alleged act was committed.

“The suspects were arrested by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel after illegally draining fuel from the truck belonging to one of the major oil marketers at the ramp. It was discovered that the deal was done in connivance with the truck driver”.“

Arik Air staff nabbed for stealing aircraft fuel

Minister for Aviation, Osita Chidoka, on Monday said three Arik Air staff were arrested by the ministry for attempting to steal fuel from an aircraft.

The minister visa his Facebook page stated that the trio of Blessing Dugbe, Samuel Asuquo and Isaac Ajakaiye were arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, during a security patrol operation on Sunday at about around 3 a.m local time.

The accused were said to be stealing Jet A1 fuel from an Arik Air plane, with registration number: 5N-MID into six jerry cans for sales at cheaper price to other unsuspecting airline operators.

The three suspects were handed over to the Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB), AVSEC MMIA for further action.

Spain Global Tourism Forum to gather tourism experts to provide solutions for challenges facing tourism industry in the future

Global Tourism Forum is a world tourism event will bring in experts and professionals from the sector to analyse the impact of tourism on the world economy. GTPDR to hold open meeting in Tift County to increase tourism resources

The Georgia Department of Economic Development announced  that Georgia Tourism’s Product Development Resource (GTPDR)  team will return to Tift County on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, to present its findings to the community. The Tourism division’s resource team is a statewide initiative that provides communities with the resources needed to identify tourism product and increase visitor activity throughout the community. The meeting is open to the public and will take place at the Tift Theatre in Downtown Tifton at 6 p.m.
“We are excited to return to Tift County to present a suggested strategy based on the observations and research from our initial resource team visit this past summer,” said Bruce Green, Director of Tourism Product Development at the Georgia Department of Economic Development. “The team spent time with community leaders exploring possible cultural tourism opportunities that will be critical to Tift County’s continued progress and success.”
Following initial staff visits, Tift County was selected by the Georgia Tourism division to participate in this initiative, which focuses technical assistance in the form of a reconnaissance and strategy visit to a local community interested in developing its tourism potential.

Turkish Airlines Signs GE OnPoint Solution Agreement for CF6-80E Engines

Turkish Airlines signed a five-year OnPoint^SM solution agreement with GE Aviation for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of the airline’s CF6-80E engines that power three Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

 “We signed this service agreement with GE to ensure our CF6-80E engines are maintained to the OEM standards and remain in top operating condition,” said Dr. Temel Kotil, president and chief executive officer, Turkish Airlines.


“GE and Turkish Airlines have developed a strong relationship with GE maintaining Turkish Airlines’ GE90 and CF6-80E engine fleet,” said Kevin McAllister, president and CEO of GE Aviation’s Services organization. “We look forward to be a significant part of Turkish Airlines’ outstanding operation by maintaining and supporting its recently added CF6-80E engine fleet.”

AirAsia Indonesia Flight QZ8501

The National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) Republic of Indonesia today announced that Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) of QZ8501 aircraft has been found and lifted from the seafloor on Wednesday  morning. The CVR was found at a distance of approximately 20 meter from the location where the flight data recorder was found yesterday.

Following this finding, BASARNAS confirmed that both parts of the aircraft’s blackbox (flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder) have been evacuated and flown to Jakarta for further investigation by Indonesia’s National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT).

Cebu Pacific holds first seat sale without fuel surcharges

Cebu Pacific offers its first system-wide seat sale, after the airline removed fuel surcharges on all flights last January 9, 2015, in line with decreasing fuel prices worldwide.
The seat sale is available on all 34 domestic and 28 international destinations, from January 14 to 16, 2015 or until seats last. It is for travel from July 1 to November 30, 2015.
Passengers can take advantage of P399 seats on all its domestic routes, which includes popular island destinations such as Boracay (Caticlan), Palawan (Puerto Princesa), Cebu, Davao, and the like.

Paris on Terrorism Alert After 11 Killed in Magazine Attack

Paris was put on the highest terrorist alert after at least 11 people were killed in shootings at the offices of the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo in eastern Paris.

 

Four more people are in a critical state and an additional 20 have been injured, police said.

“France is in a state of shock after this terrorist attack,” French President Francois Hollande said. “An act of exceptional barbarity has been perpetrated against a newspaper, against liberty of expression, against journalists.”
