NCAA has issued out warning to
all airlines and pilots to ensure safety and get adequate departure, en route
and destination weather information from NIMET (Nigerian Meteorological Agency),
prior to flight operations.
NCAA stated the warming due on the
forecast by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) of the occurrence
outbreaks of dust during this harmattan period.
The warning was made online and
signed by the NCAA Director General, Capt. Muhtar Usman and made available to
journalists.
Usman stated that “severe
outbreaks of dusts could reduce atmospheric visibility significantly and thus
impact negatively on flight operations, based on the above, and the agency has
issued to all airline operators and pilots to comply with the following rules”.
He stated that airlines and
pilots should “ensure that adequate departure, en route and destination
weather information are obtained from NIMET prior to flight operations,
exercise maximum restraint when adverse weather is observed or forecast by
NIMET and ensure that flight operations are scheduled with adequate weather
information from NIMET to minimize delay or cancellation of flight
operations.”
The Director General appealed to
all concerned to strictly comply with laid down regulations.
