Dana Air has explained the reasons for
the delay in the final settlement of insurance claims of the families of
the victims of the ill-fated Dana flight 992 that crashed into the
densely populated Iju-Ishaga neighbourhood of Lagos State three years
ago.
The airline’s spokesperson, Mr Sam
Ogbogoro in a statement said the explanation became imperative in view
of agitation by some families of victims who are alleging that the
airline has abandoned them.
He said: “Compensation matters are being
handled by our insurance company and we can confirm that all the
families that have completed the documentation process have been fully
paid. A fraction of others are yet to receive final settlements as some
have claims under litigation before a Federal High Court in Lagos as
well as in Florida and Illinois USA.
“We are however not able to give
individual details as we respect the privacy of the affected families
and our prayer is for God to console and heal their wounds.”
The airline has been receiving
criticisms from all concerned quarters as regards the treatment of some
of the families of the victims.
