Passengers flying to Yola and Gombe
yesterday protested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja
after their flights were cancelled.
According to reports, most of the
passengers have been waiting for their flights since 9am local time and
some of them decided to sleep on the tarmac of the airport.
One of the passengers said “I want to
believe this is happening because they don’t want us to go and exercise
our franchise. Now we dont know where to go to,” he added.
Meanwhile, the domestic and
international wings of the airport have continued to witness an unusual
exodus of passengers departing the city in the last two days.
Some local flights for today (Friday) were already fully booked and some airlines have seized the opportunity to hike fares.
Spokesperson of Abuja airport, Henrietta
Yakubu said all hands are on deck to ensure passengers have a smooth
transition, adding “security and all the departmental operations are on
ground to ensure that people don’t have any difficulty in the airport.”
