Delta Airlines, MMA2, SAHCOL win awards

Delta Airlines

Delta Airlines has been named Business Airline of the Year 2017 at the United Kingdom’s Business Travel Awards, beating the likes of EasyJet, Etihad Airways, Norwegian and Qatar Airways.

The award is the first for Delta at the annual event, and the first time in over a decade that a U.S. airline wins the title.Meanwhile, the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) in Lagos and Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited (SAHCOL) have also won awards in recognition of excellent services.

While MMA2 won the Most Functional Airport Terminal Award in Nigeria for 2016, SAHCOL won as the best handling company. The 22nd Business Travel Awards in U.K. were judged by a panel of corporate travel managers and industry specialists credited Delta both for its commitment to corporate travellers and its extensive corporate social responsibility programme.

The programme includes partnering with The Prince’s Trust and supporting the arts through sponsorship of the Donmar Warehouse and The National Theatre.

Staff Vice President, Frank Jahangir, said the recognition was a testament to hard work the team had put in to raise the airlines’ profile with business and leisure travelers in the competitive market.

The MMA terminal, operated by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), was adjudged the best by Nigerians who responded to the calls of the Nigerian Aviation (NIGAV) Awards Committee to nominate winners for the various categories of its awards organised by IFC International Limited, an aviation consulting firm.
Other awards won by airlines operating at MMA2 are: the Best Airline of the Year (Med-View Airlines) and the Best Customer Service Airline of the Year (Dana Air).

While receiving the award on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Capt. Jari Olubunmi Williams, the Head of Corporate Communications, Stephen Omolale, said it was a reward for hard work and commitment to excellence by the operator of MMA2.

Omolale said: “Despite the harsh environment in which we operate, engendered by the non-respect of our concession agreement by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), which has led to enormous loss of revenue, making it challenging for us to meet obligations, among other serious challenges MMA2 is facing, we will continue to ensure that we provide the best for all our airlines, passengers and visitors alike.

“We will continue to toil day and night to make sure that MMA2 remains the benchmark to measure other airport terminals in the country”.SAHCOL was also awarded at the NIGAV Awards for the “remarkable changes, improvements and value added to the aviation development, air transport service delivery and safer air travel”
